[...] – Congratulations again to Shotgun Korea, who had Desmond William Kim on August 18. [...]
Everyone, thank you for all of your comments and love– we planned to reply to everyone but we didn’t quite make it. We love you!!
You are and always will be my baby………love Dad
Julie and Joo-Young,
Congratulations for having this beautiful baby boy and on entering parenthood. Your life together with your husband will be that much better because every time you look at your child you’ll know that it was a product of your love. I hope that you two enjoy this new chapter in your life as you learn how to be parents and you discover that a love for your child is like no
other.
Take care and I look forward to reading more of your future posts.

What beautiful photos and a great name! CONGRATS! I too planned for a relaxing water birth but Madora decided she couldn’t wait to poop until she got out, so I was sent to the hospital. I remember the midwives telling me early on that we end up having the birth we’re meant to…and at the end we really don’t care how they arrive, do we?! So happy for you guys and what a trooper and a half your are for 24 hours of active labour!!!!
Congratulations on the arrival of Desmond!!! I’m glad that you had a safe birth! Even though u don’t know me than you for sharing your experience with this first time mother to be in Korea! You have put alot of my stressed out nerves and worries at ease! Enjoy your new baby!
Nicole
Yayyyyyy!!!!!!! I am bawling here and can’t wait to talk to you!!!

Same for me- she wouldn’t drop for the longest time (never did at the end of pregnancy- I guess that’s fairly common for first babies)! But her heartrate wasn’t erratic, so that was probably the reason for c-section for you and not for me. But after 24 hours with little pause in my contractions too (3 minutes apart from start of labor to finish, lasting 2 to 3 minutes for much of the labor) I was begging for epidurals, c-sections, whatever. Luckily my husband was there and reminded me that I didn’t want that unless it became necessary!
Yeah, I think it was the heartbeat that made us finally choose to go to the hospital… we were planing on maybe just getting an epidural so the baby and I could calm down for a second but I guess my water had broken too early and I had some sort of infection, so they couldn’t give me one– it quickly became C-section or nothing. Dr. Chung from Mediflower drove us to Cha in his own car that night and stayed with us until after the baby was delivered– he really went above and beyond, even making sure Joo-Young could be in the operating room (something that I guess is fairly unusual here).
Julie! Congratulations! I am so estatic for your and little Desmond. He is adorable. (so adorable that even though I’ve only known that he was out for two hours, everyone in my office has seen his picture.) I hope everyone in your little family is doing so well! ps. the middle name wolfie is awesome.
Hello Hell and welcome to the world Wolfie!
Please give hugs from me to everyone!
Lots of love and Mazel.
La chaim – to life!

Holy cow!!! Congratulations! Woot woot times infinity! Love to the three of you!
Julie he is beautiful congratulations. Welcome to motherhood
Thanks Debbie!
What a cutie! Desmond was a total success! I hope you are feeling well and loving on that little guy. P.S. both you and Joo-young’s hair look awesome in these pictures. fyi.
He’s totally a success! When they prepped me for surgery they decided to put my hair in a bunch of pigtails using rubber bands instead of hair-ties which left me with wild-woman hair that Joo-Young and Timia had to comb out this morning.
Wow, congratulations! I wonder how similar your labor was to mine- I had 24 hours of active labor too, and was THIS close to having a c-section. I grieved not having that nice water birth with the midwife that I had playing in my head the whole pregnancy, but it is NOT easy and even in the midst of labor my in-pain-and-scared psyche told me clearly that as long as I had a healthy baby at the end this was NOT a failure.
Have a good rest and recovery! Great name, too! I wish we lived closer so Mina and Desmond could be playmates! Maybe when we’re back in Seattle in March…
Bonnie
Yes, let’s definitely get Mina and Desmond together in Seattle! We tried the water birth, but he never ended up dropping and his heart rate became really erratic since there was basically no pause in the contractions for hours. Our doctor gave us the option of transferring to a hospital which in the end I think was worth it– C-sections are scary, but I’m glad he’s out and OK.
YAAAY! Do I get to be the first person to congratulate you in the comments?
Congratulations!
A lot!
Thanks Rob!
Congratulations to the three of you! Is Wolfie on the Birth Certificate? If so, you rock just a little bit more than I knew.
